Hello! I’m a military Veteran and currently enrolled in college. I’m about to graduate and grew up in the Southeast, have always wanted to return!

Is it true Tampa PD tops out at $134k with a take home car as an officer? I googled your contract and all that time off with raises sounds awesome.

I get a take home car and don’t have to pay for gas? Can I get hired with just a four year degree? I can’t find any corporate America job with benefits like that.

Ignore the ignorants who answered you and you should do a better job of research yourself! The answer is NO, you are wrong.

At https://www.tampa.gov/police/join-officer you can easily see that:
  • New officers earn a base salary of $74,942* (Up to $85,904 with prior experience). *Starting October 1st, 2025
  • Senior officers (Master Patrol Officers) earn at Least $121,680 after 10 years of service.
So NO, officers do NOT top out at $134K, it's $121K and takes 10 years to get there.

Another thing, Tampa has pick if the litter because everybody wants in (i.e. pay, deferred comp, DROP). You better do a better job at research or you'll be working elsewhere.

Unless you can check the boxes, you're gonna have a hard time here .. race, sexuality, M/F, etc.. that will be denied by admin all day long but it's the reality ... Most coming in are incompetent but if you can say F/L/B you are golden and will be never let go

I appreciate all your input. I see your Chief says TPD is the best in the nation. Do you enjoy working there?

Unfortunately I don’t check a lot of boxes but I try to stand out through my work ethic.

You only need military experience (3 years I think) or an Associates degree to be eligible to apply. Current pay tops out at 121K but it increases every year, the current contract should be available on the public website if you want to look at it.

If you have a military history, in shape, competent, and don't have a history of felonies, you should be able to be hired. You only need to be a minority if you are out of shape and incompetent.
