Come on HCSO leaders. Don’t double down on this one. I know that is your big bully instinct to double down, not back down, and not admit you were wrong. Just like you are doing with your moronic daily roll calls. Let this one go. Deputies think it’s stupid, the public think it’s stupid, the moron that partially came up with this stupid idea got fired for being a cheater. Also, you are causing confusion and crashes.

Cancel the stupid cruise lights. Instead of your usual MO, which is based on optics, actually put more deputies on the street instead of making it look like there are more with stupid lights.

I can prove how stupid you are. Long ago you used the large red and blue “gum ball machine” Federal Signal Street Hawk rotator police light bars. Brand new they cost about $800.00. They were tall and you could see them a mile away.

You then swapped to the very slim LED lights at a cost of $3,500 a piece. In the name of “stealth”. You even updated the SOP to reflect that all emergency lights would be clear and transparent when off. No color. Again, in the name of stealth. They got slimmer and slimmer and of course, much more expensive.

Now you want to re invent the wheel and run cruise lights at almost 4 times the cost of a cheap light bar that was highly visible?

You keep re inventing the wheel over and over and over. Back and forth. Forgetting your prior research and prior models. The answers have always been there all along.

Your revolving door of deputies and commanders keep the institutional memory erased and it’s like the agency is 5 years old every day.

You waste tax money, resources, and time. Efforts you should be putting into the basics. The foundation of policing. Like pay, staffing, officer mental health. Not gimmicks.

Grow up, eat crow, and put out that little memo. It’s like like you even have to type it. Just tell one of your secretaries to do it like they always do. Tell your deputies to turn those stupid lights off. Then have a slice of humble pie.

I don’t turn mine on anymore. I got tired of almost crashing every shift with drivers who freak out when they see the lights. You know they will make us at fault for the crash too so it just isn’t worth the hassle. I don’t see command staff using their cruise lights in their luxury vehicles so why should I?

Exactly. Arm chair jockeys. They updated the SOP now and doubled down now. They love to double down. No humility. “It’s just one button to push”, but it’s the point that matters. Cruise lights are a fake BS idea fairy decision dumped on its deputies to try and fool the public. To make it look like we have enough deputies out there. It’s a lot more than just one button. A whole lot more. It’s a reflection on your toxic bully lying culture. Same with you stupid daily roll calls.

The same arm chair jockeys who refuse to change the class B uniform they never wear, god forbid you give the option to wear outer vest carriers to alleviate the hip and back pain. Tradition and image over functionality and physical health. Every other agency has gone to outer carriers it seems.

That would mean comfort for you, the front line workers. Not how they think. Not who they care about. Comfort is saved for the elites. Admin get $3000 sit stand stations, meanwhile the ones that write the police reports that are read buy judges, juries, and lawyer in the court of law, get to type in the field, in a hurry, with calls holding, cramped in a car with their upper bodies twisted in a 45 degree angle. They demand flawless reports that can literally take away a persons freedom, yet they provide no comfort in which to do it. Not even specific time. If the HCSO was so “innovative”, there would be enough staff to let deputies go back to their district to write reports.

They have bigger things to worry about like a new 50 million dollar SOC, 750k bulletproof Tahoes for the sheriff, multiple vehicles valued over 100k assigned to colonels, and $10,000 in kickbacks from traffic camera companies.

Our backs mean nothing to them. In fact the more uncomfortable you are, the more you will resign. Just like they want. Preferably before you get vested or reach max pay. Then they can replace you with a cheap labor rookie in year one of the pay stage. Better yet, not replace you at all.
